LED Power Supplies NZ

ED power supplies are modules designed to regulate and provide power to the LED lighting strips in domestic or commercial environments. LED power supplies are sometimes referred to as electric power converters, LED drivers or LED transformers. Other functions that LED power supplies may perform include, limiting the current drawn by the load to safe levels, shutting off the current in the event of an electrical fault, power conditioning to prevent electronic noise or voltage surges on the input from reaching the load.

At Display Lighting, we have an extensive range of LED transformer NZ with different wattages for both indoor and outdoor. We have the 12V transformer for LED lights and also the 24V LED power supplies. We stock a full range of RGB colour changing controllers (either a simple push-button controller to sophisticated units with remote control options), DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) control gear, and Din rail (a metal rail of a standard type widely used for mounting circuit breakers and industrial control equipment inside equipment racks).

Power Supplies

LED power supplies convert the 240V mains electric current to the correct voltage, current, and frequency to power the load. As a result, the wattage of each LED power supply will differ depending on the length of the strip and the type. If you have any doubts about the suitability of an LED strip transformer with your newly purchased LED strip lights, then please don’t hesitate to contact us.

If you need an LED power supply circuit explained in greater detail, our experienced lighting designers will be more than happy to help with your enquiry.

You should be able to determine which LED power supply you need from the specifications printed on the back of your LED lighting strip packaging, the LED itself or with an included datasheet. LEDs are specialised and specifically-designed forms of lighting which require a select amount of power to function properly. When improperly installed, LEDs can often overheat, short-circuit or straight-up break.

If you are unsure of how to choose the correct LED power supply for your LED strip light, then don’t hesitate to contact us. We highly recommend that you talk to one of our lighting designers who will advise you on how to install a 24V or 12V transformer for LED lights.

Here are three things to check to determine the perfect LED power supply:

  1. You should always purchase LED power supplies that can successfully power the wattage required by your LEDs. Our lighting designers recommend that you have a 20% allowance over the required wattage. To calculate this, you simply need to determine the watts per metre of your LED and multiply this by the number of lengths. Ensure that the LED power supply can handle this wattage by adding 20% to your value.
  2. Another value to check is the output voltage of your LED transformer compared with the input voltage of the LED strip light. By matching this value, you can be sure to not overload the LED strip light. The forward voltage should not exceed the output voltage. Display Lighting has 12V transformers for LED lights and also 24V LED transformers NZ.
  3. The LED power supplies should work to protect the light strips from becoming overpowered and prolong their life, so make sure to get a LED power supply that works perfectly with your lighting requirements.
